Our Natural Ethiopian comes to us directly from the Chelbessa Washing Station in the Yirgacheffe region in central southern Ethiopia. Always reliable, you can expect this coffee to be bright, syrupy sweet, and balanced with fresh fruit and floral flavors. It is the perfect way to start your day or raise your spirits in the afternoon.
Being one of the largest “Kebeles,” or towns in Gedeb, Chelbessa receives coffee from upwards of 500 farmers in the region. Here, farmers will deliver their coffees in-cherry, where it is then processed–either washed or natural–and dried on raised beds. According to Café Imports, “coffees in Ethiopia are typically grown on very small plots of land by farmers who also grow other crops.” The majority of these farmers are smallholders and sustenance farmers, holding less than 1 hectare of land apiece. Because of this, washing stations like Chelbessa are able to offer varietal blends of locally grown coffees with unique and exciting notes.
